Lynn Public Library Curious Creatures Visit

When we got home from our Maine vacation, I knew the kids would miss the activity level that we had kept. The babies do so much better when their days are broken up and there are definite periods of activity and rest. We now get out just about every day to do something. Our first field trip was to the Lynn Library's Curious Creatures demonstration. The big kids had a blast. Simone is an ardent lover of all animals so this was right up her ally. The babies love birds and they had a giant blue bird (forgive me for not knowing which kind) which moved around during the whole presentation. They made it through most of the presentation with hardly a squeak.

The demonstrator was absolutely amazing with the kids and the animals. The place was packed and he really knew how to involve the whole room and manage the animals. He was extremely friendly. Toward the end, the kids lined up and got to have the bird sit on their shoulder. He stopped the interaction after a little boy acted up and poor Simone was in tears. I walked her over to him to see if she could just touch the bird and when he saw her tears, he was so sweet to her and let the bird sit on her shoulder. She was so incredibly happy. Some days, you get to see kindness shine in the faces of strangers. When that kindness is extended to your child, you feel a little better about the world  they're inheriting.

Say what you want about Lynn, but this is their hometown and I'm going to make the most of the treasures I find here. The librarians at the Lynn Library Children's room are some of those treasures. They are truly fantastic people. They are always so happy to see us and help me get the babies in and out any way they can. The library itself needs better handicap accessibility as there is none leading into the children's lower level. I am acutely aware of accessibility now that I have to manage a double-wide stroller. It's really sad to think of how many children in our city can't easily go to the library. Note to Friends: you need to fix this immediately, even if it means a temporary structure until the renovations are underway!
